March 5, 2014—Responsive HTML5 templates based on Twitter Bootstrap. MailChimp, CRE Secure integration, and More.

SoftSlate Commerce 3.3.2 Released

SoftSlate is pleased to announce the release of the latest version of SoftSlate Commerce, version 3.3.2. This release includes a number of significant improvements and new features. For a complete list of changes between 3.3.1 and 3.3.2 visit the Change Log.

New Default JSP Templates Based on HTML5 and Twitter Bootstrap

The most significant new feature in version 3.3.2 is a completely reworked set of JSP templates featuring responsive mobile support and based on Twitter Bootstrap 3. Among the features and benefits of the new set of default templates are:

  • Mobile-friendly, responsive design. The new templates are compatibile with all types of devices, from narrow smartphones to tablets, to desktops. Bootstrap 3 is conceived as a "mobile first" framework. SoftSlate's new templates leverage the Bootstrap Grid system to scale the display comfortably from the narrow devices to wide desktops. At every stage in between, the same set of templates renders the pages appropriately for every user.
  • Bootstrap Themes. There is a large community of designers creating themes for the Bootstrap framework. In many cases, these themes can be dropped in with very minimal integration required. In fact, we are distributing 15 separate open-source Bootstrap themes out-of-the-box covering a wide range of design treatments. Visit the demo store to see each of the themes in action (To switch to one of the themes in your installation, go to Look and Feel Settings -> Themes.)
  • One-page checkout. Included in this release is the option to use Ajax to submit each step of the checkout process. It features an accordion control that expands each section of the checkout as the customer proceeds through it.
  • Backwards compatibility. The new templates are the default templates used for all fresh installs. If you are upgrading from a previous version, to maintain backwards compatibility, your store will continue to use the original set of default templates unless you choose to switch. (To switch your store, go to Look and Feel Settings -> Advanced Display Settings and modify the "Base Layout" setting to "default-html5".)
  • Try out the new design now in SoftSlate's Demo Store!

MailChimp Email Marketing Integration

In addition to SoftSlate Emailer and Constant Contact, we have added integration with the MailChimp email campaign management service. Customers who go through checkout or fill out the contact form can be asked to be added to your MailChimp account and SoftSlate uses the MailChimp API to add them to your subscriber list without any manual intervention required.

Integration with CRE Secure Backed by Authorize.net CIM for Payment Processing

Version 3.3.2 includes integration with the CRE Secure payment service, which may act as a relay with the Authorize.net CIM service. CRE Secure provides an important advantage over straight integration with Authorize.net CIM in that more control is possible over the appearance of the payment form. While both services can host the payment form on their PCI-compliant servers, CRE Secure allows you to manipulate the CSS styles in use by the form, so it truly appears to be a seamless part of your site.
