Enterprise And Community Editions Released (Version 3.2.5)

June 15, 2012—New Enterprise and Community Editions.

SoftSlate Commerce Enterprise And Community Editions Released!

SoftSlate is happy to announce the release of our new open-source Community Edition and our Enterprise Edition.

To date, SoftSlate has offered the Free Edition, Starter Edition, and Standard Edition of SoftSlate Commerce. These three editions are now replaced by the free, open-source Community Edition and a new Enterprise Edition. As with the previous editions, we offer Hosted versions of each.

SoftSlate Commerce Community Edition

The SoftSlate Commerce Community Edition is 100% free and open source; it is released under the Apache License, version 2. SoftSlate excited and proud now to contribute our software back to the community. We hope it will find a welcome audience and look forward to working closely with developers who are interested in contributing to it. The Community Edition will have almost all of the functionality of the full Enterprise Edition and so it will be suitable for a wide range of companies and developers. For full details and to download the Community Edition visit: http://www.softslate.com/category/community

SoftSlate Commerce Enterprise Edition

For those companies requiring the full suite of application features in addition to a commercial license and other perks, we will offer the SoftSlate Commerce Enterprise Edition. The Enterprise Edition includes such features as Advanced Search with Lucene, Order Management Tools, Inventory Control, Administrator Roles and Permissions, and more. Plus: More Ways to Get Started with SoftSlate Commerce

Along with the release of our two new editions, SoftSlate is offering new ways to install and get started with SoftSlate Commerce:

  • Standalone Distribution File. In addition to downloading the application in war or zip format, a "standalone" version is also available. This version is a Zip file that comes with the Winstone server embedded in it. Simply unzip it, and run the launch script that comes with it. SoftSlate Commerce will fire up within seconds, and you're on your way to getting started. (Visit http://localhost:8080 after launching to get to the SoftSlate installation page.)

  • BitBucket.org Mercurial Respository. You can download the Community Edition via Mercurial from our repository hosted on BitBucket.org. You do not need an account to do so, simply visit: https://bitbucket.org/softslate/softslate-commerce-community-edition. After cloning the repository, change into the WEB-INF/build directory and run the build script to compile the project.

  • Amazon EC2 Machine Image. Do you do EC2? If so, we have registered a public AMI that has the Community Edition already configured, running under Tomcat 7. It is all set up and ready to go. After launching it, log in as the "ec2-user" and check out the README file in the home directory.

Version 3.2.5 Released

Along with the new Editions, we are releasing version 3.2.5, which includes a number of fixes and minor improvements. For a complete list of changes between 3.2.4 and 3.2.5 visit the Change Log: http://www.softslate.com/documentation/html/changeLog.html.

Special Note on Upgrading From Previous Versions to 3.2.5

Upgrading to version 3.2.5 and beyond now involves switching from the Free, Starter, or Standard Edition, to either the Community or Enterprise Edition. For more details, please see the FAQ question, I own the Standard Edition. What happens to me now that the Community and Enterprise Editions are out?: http://www.softslate.com/category/faqs#standard.
